Conversations about Heaven

The other day, Flynn & I had a pretty intense conversation about HEAVEN. I think she's actually excited about going. Right now, how we came about conversing with such a mature topic, escapes me.
She asked if we just lay there & 'sleep' at the hospital, after we die.
"No, I'm pretty sure right then & there we go to heaven."
"So, does Jesus come down & get us?"
"I'm not sure....maybe an angel escorts us up there."
She squealed (a strong fondness of angels).
"So, the angel takes us up throught the clouds?"
"Yep, and there you wait for the other people you love to join you. So, if Momma were to die first, I'd wait there for you....and dad...and Bubs...."
"So, if I die, I wait there. If Bubby dies first, he waits there."
"Yep." (altho, not thrilled with thinking about such things).

"Flynn, heaven is going to be so wonderful. Guess what? In heaven, you WON'T be allergic to ANYTHING!!"

She got a huge grin on her face. All the while, I'm praying that she gets to experience such freedom BEFORE heaven.

"Do we have to die to get to heaven?"

"Probably. BUT, there is a chance that you'll be here on earth when Jesus comes back for everyone. And everyone here on earth, still alive, will have the chance to go back with Him...to heaven...if they have Him in their heart. You do, right?"

"Yes."

I didn't get into the whole splitting of the clouds...the trumpet....the graves opening. I figured, that was all a bit heavy for her four year old mentality.

But, we did talk a lot about the clouds.

Kids' capabilities to comprehend things is astounding sometimes, huh? For the first time ever, Kieran, too has been asking me LOTS of questions about Heaven and hell and death. He is not quite aware enough to ask about "sleeping" in the hospital...wow, that's amazing that she asked that. But he talks about it a lot. He says it does sound like a great place, but is already clued in enough of the grips of this tangible world that he does say he doesn't want to go there "yet." I think it's just great that you are so open with Flynn and will answer her questions when she asks.

I think it's great that you are open to speaking so frank with her. We've discussed things a lot with our kids since I worked in a nursing home and my kids visited often and hads lots of grandpa's and grandma's there. Also, in the last few years we've attended many funerals and I mean many. Death is as much a part of life as being born and to know that you will be united with Jesus and your family is wonderful. Well done Amy. You are doing a great job with your kids.
On another note. At church last night a mother came in and said she was just diagnosed with whooping cough. I immediately thought of you. I remember last year there was an outbreak even with children that had been vaccinated. Just a thought.

What a great way to describe heaven. I find it hard to talk about it with my 4 year old. I love reading about your little conversations with Flynn!
